Composites in the form of a Glass Reinforced Polyester (GRP) was first used during the World War ll for protective cover of Radars and thereafter for the Aircraft Industry, after the introduction of Chopped Strand Mat (C S M), moulding for Boat Hull and Car body started by Lamination method. During 1950’s, Basic Technology for Filament Winding had been introduced and a Pultrution Machine was also developed. Developments of 3 major polyester resins – such as Isophthalic, Bisphenol and Chlorendic occurred in the same decade. Fabrication of GRP Chemical Tanks, Boats, Pipes, Ducts, Automobile parts etc. was possible with the enthusiastic exploitation of the above materials.

Tremendous changes happened in composites field due to the introduction of Sheet Moulding Compound (S.M.C.) during 1966 and started Press Moulding of car partes such as bumpers etc. Fighter Plane Fins was developed with composites after the introduction of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polyester and Boron Fiber Reinforced Epoxy during 1970’s.
